How Home Support North can assist

Home Support North is Northland’s largest provider of in-home care and support services. Our team of caring Support Workers are your partners in maintaining independence. We provide essential services to make daily life easier, including personal care, meal preparation, and housekeeping. Need help getting to appointments, doing shopping or heading to the gym? We’re happy to assist!

We go beyond just the physical. Knowing the importance of connection, our Support Workers offer companionship and a friendly ear. This holistic approach fosters emotional well-being and allows you to experience a richer, more enjoyable life at home.

We can help if you:

Have ongoing or age-related health problems

Live with a disability

Have an injury or disability because of an accident

Are recovering after hospital treatment

These services are either government funded or paid for privately depending on your personal circumstances.

Individualised Funding

Individualised Funding (IF) is a support service that is provided by the Ministry of Health, allowing eligible people in the disability community the flexibility and control to manage their own funding. It gives you the option to choose who provides your support and how and when you use it. We can help you navigate your options so you can choose the support and care that is best for you.

Questions & Answers

What services are available through Government Funded Care?

Government Funded Care, also known as publicly funded health and disability services, offers a variety of support options to help you live independently at home or in the community. These can include help with daily living activities like showering, dressing, meal preparation, housework, and transportation. Our Nurse Coordinator will complete an in-home evaluation and create a plan for services based on your funding allotment.

What services need to be paid for privately?

While Government Funded Care covers a broad range of services, there may be situations where you would need to consider private payment for some in-home support. Government funding prioritises services that assist with essential daily living activities. Additional services you might desire, like companionship beyond basic care or assistance with hobbies, may not be covered and would require private payment. There may also be limitations on the amount of government funding allocated per person. If your needs exceed those caps, you might be responsible for the remaining cost. Reach out to us so we can create a plan that compliments your lifestyle needs and budget.

What are the qualifications of your support workers?

Home Support North employs trained and experienced support workers who are committed to providing exceptional care. They undergo background checks and receive ongoing training to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to meet your individual needs. Many of our Support Workers have a Level 2, 3 and 4 Certificate in Health & Wellbeing.

How do I get started with Home Support North?

If you think you may benefit from home support services, the first step is to contact your GP or Needs Assessment Agency. They will conduct an assessment to determine your needs and eligibility for funding. If Home Support North is chosen as your provider, they will work with you to develop a personalised care plan. Give us a call on 0800 832 383 to receive a FREE guide that give you step by step instructions to receiving cares or DOWNLOAD it here.

How much do your services cost?

The cost of home support services can vary depending on your individual needs and the type of service you require. However, if you are eligible, some or all of the cost may be covered by government funding. Home Support North recommends contacting your GP or Needs Assessment Agency to discuss your situation and list Home Support North as your preferred provider of your support services.

Who is eligible for your services?

Home support services are available to those 65+ and those with disabilities who need help with daily living tasks. You may be eligible for free or subsidised support through government funding. To find out if you qualify, contact your GP or Needs Assessment Agency. Home Support North can also be chosen as your provider if you have Individualised Funding (IF) funding.

What services do you offer?

Home Support North offers a range of personalised home support services to help you maintain your independence and live comfortably at home. This can include assistance with daily living activities such as showering, dressing, and preparing meals, as well as personal care, companionship, and specialised care. We can assist you with your grocery shopping or getting to your appointments in the community. Our Support Workers can also assist you with household management.

Where does Home Support North offer services?

Home Support North is proud to serve the Northland region of New Zealand. Our dedicated staff operates out of offices in Whangarei and Kerikeri, providing a range of in-home and community support services to residents across the Whangarei District and the Mid and Far North regions. We understand that Northland is a vast region. If you’re unsure whether your specific location falls within our service area, don’t hesitate to reach out! We can confirm coverage in your area and explore options if we don’t currently service your specific location.

Does Home Support North offer medication supports?

Home Support North recognises the importance of medication adherence. While our support workers cannot administer medications themselves, they are here to support you. We offer medication reminders to ensure you stay on schedule, supervise oral medication intake if needed, and report any concerns like swallowing difficulties or side effects to your healthcare professional. Remember, the level of assistance depends on your individual needs and doctor’s orders. Feel free to contact us to discuss your specific situation and explore how we can best support your medication management.

I need more hours allocated - who should I contact?

If you require additional hours, please reach out to your Coordinator at Home Support North. They will coordinate a re-assessment by the Needs Assessment Centre. Once the re-assessment is complete, we will communicate the outcome and any necessary changes to Home Support North.

What happens if my regular Support Worker is away?

Occasionally, your regular Support Worker may be unavailable, such as during holidays or due to illness. Rest assured; we will always strive to assign someone familiar to you as a replacement. Generally, we won’t disturb you with notifications for these changes. However, we will get in touch with you if:

  • Someone you have not met before is assigned.
  • There is a change in the scheduled time or day for your Support Worker.
  • We encounter difficulties finding a replacement.
