What are the Main Changes?
The upcoming changes apply to individuals who receive support funded through the Needs Assessment Service Coordination (NASC) organisations.
More Control Over Flexible Funding
The key driver behind these changes is to simplify processes and empower users:
- Removal of Purchasing Guidelines: The current strict guidelines on what flexible funding can be used for will be removed. This means more choice and greater control for you and your whānau.
- Budget Management: If you receive flexible funding, you will be provided with a defined budget to manage your support.
- Support & Guidance: Guidance will be available to help you effectively manage your new budget, making flexible funding much easier to use.
Fairer and More Consistent Assessments
To ensure equity across the country:
- Standardised NASC Assessments: All NASC organisations nationwide will now use the same assessment methodology. This ensures decisions regarding your support are fairer and more consistent, regardless of where you live.
- Whānau and Carer Consideration: Assessments will formally include consideration for the support needs of families, whānau, and carers.
