What is Individualised Funding (IF)?
IF is a program from the Ministry of Disabled People that provides you with more control over how you receive disability support. It offers financial resources that you can use to purchase the specific services you need, increasing your independence and flexibility.
Who is eligible for individualised funding?
To be eligible for IF, you must first undergo an assessment to determine if it is the right fit for you. This assessment is conducted by a Needs Assessment Coordinator Service (NASC). Generally, eligibility involves being approved for Whaikaha funded services and having a designated support that can be managed through IF.
How can individualised funding help me?
IF can be used to cover a variety of disability support services, including: Personal care and household management: Hire support workers (family members, contracted individuals, or organizations) to assist with daily tasks. Respite care: Allow full-time carers to take breaks by arranging support from workers or alternative options.
How can Home Support North help me with my individualised funding?
IF Hosts are organisations, like Home Support North, contracted by the Ministry to guide you through using your IF. They can help you understand the program, set up your support plan, manage paperwork like employing support workers, and ensure you are following funding guidelines. Their services can be tailored to your comfort level, with options for them to handle additional tasks like recruiting, training, and payroll for your support workers.
How do I choose the services for individualised funded care?
Choosing the right services for Individualised Funded Care (IF) is an empowering process. Start by reflecting on your daily needs and prioritising what requires the most assistance. Then, explore options! Talk to your Needs Assessment Coordinator Service (NASC) and research online resources to discover service providers in your area. Consider non-traditional options like assistive technology or home modifications to enhance independence. Once you have some potential providers in mind, compare their experience, cost, and compatibility with your preferences. Finally, discuss your choices with Home Support North to ensure they align with funding guidelines and work together to develop a personalised support plan. Remember, IF allows flexibility, so your plan can adapt to your changing needs.
